“…each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” (James 1:14-15)
Ancient Eskimos were occasionally threatened by packs of dangerous wolves. Although Eskimos are experts in setting traps, wolves are generally too cautious to approach conventional snares. So the Eskimos devised a unique “trap”. They began bycoating a sharp blade with animal blood, and then allowing the blood to freeze. They added additional layers of the crimson bait, until the blade was hidden beneath a thick coating of frozen blood. The concealed blade was subsequently secured to the top of a buried stake. Drops of fresh blood were then sprinkled on the surrounding snow.
Whenever a wolf caught sight or scent of the blood, he would invariably locate the blood-covered blade and begin licking. His craving for blood would prompt him to lick more vigorously, until it’s tongue reached the sharp blade. In the midst of a feeding frenzy, the wolf would be oblivious to the fact that its tongue was being sliced open, and that the warm blood it tasted was his very own! By the time the wolf realized what was occurring, it was frequently too late. The next morning, the Eskimo would often find the frozen carcass of a wolf nearby.

Satan’s temptations are designed to entice us in a similar manner. He commences by planting thoughts in our minds about something to which we are attracted, i.e. pornography, fornication, possessions, alcohol, money, painkillers, gossip, etc. As our thoughts begin focusing on the desire, our craving only intensifies. Once we give in and sin, we find it almost impossible to stop.
The lesson? As soon as ANY seductive thought enters your mind, REPLACE IT with something good and Godly. DON’T focus on the “bait”. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. RESIST him, steadfast in the faith...” (1 PET 5:8-9)
Jesus, always Jesus!
