Dear Teenager,
If I had to forsake all other correspondence, I could not afford to neglect you, for there is truth to the adage. "As the twig is bent, so grows the tree", and I love bending twigs. Some of you are bending quite well.
Take your church habits for example. Many of you giggle, whisper and even fall asleep during Bible Class (which discourages your teacher). Others pass notes, text and make faces at babies and toddlers during worship. Several of you are too “sophisticated” to sing, and some who do sing rarely think about the words. But don't worry; many parents don’t notice such behavior, and some apparently don’t care.
I also appreciate the fact that some of you are so “into yourselves” that you ignore visitors and rarely speak to the elderly before and after services. And several of you are doing a great job avoiding fellowships and opportunities to serve others. I commend you for readily “bending” to my desires.
But not all of you are cooperating. I’m talking about those who attend Bible class to learn; who attend worship to…worship; who invite friends to church and other activities. A few of you even pray for the salvation of your friends. What’s wrong with you? Why don't you wise up and just have a good time like the others? Just bend, already!
To all you “twigs” that are bending, I look forward to seeing you in person someday.
