What Will You Do?

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Picture yourself in the following situation. As you return home from work, shopping or school, you spot a sizable object in the road. As you approach for a closer look, you realize that it is an unconscious person. He or she is bleeding and appears seriously hurt, possibly having been struck by a vehicle. You immediately dial 911 to request assistance. After verifying your location, the operator requests that you approach the person to check for vitals. He also asks if you feel competent, with his direction, to administer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and/or CPR if needed. He adds, “Your prompt action may mean the difference between life and death.”

What would YOU do?

Are you aware that hundreds of Americans find them selves in similar situations weekly? How many of these administer direct resuscitation measures if required? Although exact figures are unknown, some estimate that LESS than 15% of Americans will take proactive steps to save a life.

Why such a low percentage? Concerns for “Acquiring HIV”, “Making matters worse”, or “Being sued” are cited as reasons for doing nothing. Unfortunately, hundreds die annually as able-bodied bystanders stand back and wait for paramedics to show. Worse yet, others pass by as if there is nothing more significant than a squirrel lying in the street.

I hope that everyone reading this would do something. But what about the scores of dying souls we encounter each week? Are we willing to do something to save them from eternal fire? Here is something most of us can do – attend the “Can I Tell You a Story” workshop at the Chelsea Church of Christ on Saturday, Feb 10 from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. Attending will help keep us from being indifferent bystanders who wait around for a preacher to show.

“…pray the Lord of the harvest to send out LABORERS into His harvest." (Matt. 9:38)

Will We Grow in 2018

WILL WE GROW IN 2018?As the New Year commences it is imperative that we examine ourselves concerning our commitment to the Lord. We should ask, "Am I growing as a child of God? Am I helping the local church to grow spiritually and numerically?"

It is imperative that we resolve to grow spiritually in 2018. Armed with that attitude, the apostle Paul said, “I PRESS toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:14).

In this life we will never reach the point in which we have GROWN ENOUGH. We must resolve to keep growing in order to make our "call and election sure" and obtain “an entrance…into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 1:10-11).

The following questions will help determine our prospects for spiritual growth in 2018.

DO I READ MY BIBLE DAILY? Our spiritual development DEPENDS on our reading and meditating on God's word daily. Jesus stated that we live, not by bread alone, but every word that proceeds from the word of God – Matt. 4:4.

AM I PRESENT AT EVERY CHURCH ASSEMBLY I AM ABLE TO ATTEND? Some Christians apparently believe that "once a week is sufficient". But what COMMITTED child of God intentionally omits opportunities to glorify our Lord? King David exclaimed, "I was GLAD when they said to me let us go into the house of the Lord" – Psa. 122:1. Hebrews 10:25 warns that Christians should assemble with the saints “so much THE MORE as you see the Day approaching.”

AM I SUPPORTING THE WORKS OF THE CHURCH BY MY PARTICIPATION? Able-bodied Christians should be ACTIVELY involved in the works of the church. Paul stated that the growth of the body is dependent upon the “working by which every part [member] DOES ITS SHARE”  Eph. 4:16.

AM I CONCERNED ABOUT LOST SOULS? God sent His Son to die on the cross because of His intense desire to save the lost (John 3:16; Rom. 5:6-8). The devoted child of God, imitating the heavenly Father, constantly seeks opportunities to share Christ with others.

WILL YOU AND I GROW IN 2018? Our answers to the above questions may reveal the answer. May God help us to "PRESS ON" in throughout 2018.
Jesus, always Jesus!Dennis
