(This poem, apparently written by a song leader many years ago, contains a valuable message!)
I tried to lead a song tonight, the best that I was able.
I worked so hard to do it right, and make our praises stable.
I raised my hand as oft before, but no one seemed to look.
I soloed, seemed for half the song, as eyes were glued to books!
I waved my hand in rhythmic style, and put forth my best endeavor
To lead us in our praise of God, and keep our tongues together.
I sang each note, observed each rest, but some were always lagging.
They put my patience to a test, and slowed the song by dragging.
One may not know his do-re-mi's, nor sing with true perception,
But anyone can heed the pleas to follow plain directions.
So watch the man as best you can, who works so hard to lead you,
And help him as leads the songs, because, dear ones, he needs you!
"Your watchmen shall lift up their voices, with their voices they shall sing together... Break forth into joy, sing together..." (Isa 52:8-9)
Jesus FIRST!
