Jesus FIRST!
“For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:2).
In our technologically advanced society, we sometimes experience "information overload". And no wonder - our smartphones alone are capable of providing access to more information in 2 hours as many of our great-grandparents were exposed to in 20 years. Moreover, there seems to be no end to our thirst for more information. Recent developments with A.I. are only fueling the fire.
While there is nothing wrong with being "informed", we must be on guard against allowing our commitment to Jesus Christ to become "lost in the shuffle."
The Apostle Paul stressed to the Christians in Corinth that he was determined to know nothing among them "except Jesus Christ and Him crucified". Although Paul also expressed concern about other issues connected with the church, his #1 focus was Jesus Christ. His overriding passion was spreading the gospel so that everyone might have the opportunity to be saved through Jesus Christ.
What about us? Are we as concerned with promoting the gospel of Christ as we are with politics, the economy, immigration, the weather or our favorite sports teams? Are we more focused on the latest headlines than teaching the lost about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
We must make certain that Jesus Christ is the CENTER of our attention and lives. In fact, pleasing our Lord must be the motive for virtually everything we do. Only then will we have a real chance of winning the lost to Christ.
“…that in all things HE may have the preeminence” (Col 3:18).
