“Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city…whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away” (James 4:13-14).
Late one night in November of 1976, Robert Woods, a 27-year-old Dallas police officer, pulled over a vehicle because the driver was not using his headlights. As officer Woods approached the car, the driver - without warning - shot him five times in the chest with a .22 pistol. Although this is a small caliber weapon, the five slugs proved lethal. Woods died on November 28, 1976.
The ironic thing is that his death was likely avoidable. A standard bulletproof vest, easily capable of stopping .22 slugs, had been recently purchased for his use. Why wasn’t he wearing it that night? His wife had purchased it just days before, but decided to wait until Christmas to give it to him. Unfortunately, the gift came TOO LATE! Following the tragedy, police officials indicated that had Woods been wearing the vest, he would have likely survived with little more than five painful bruises.

Gifts are wonderful, as are encouraging words, notes, letters or cards to loved ones. In fact, many of us communicate such messages regularly to friends and family. However, we need to think bigger in this regard. Bigger in terms of helping to save or recover lost souls.
Most of us know people who have never obeyed the gospel, or who are no longer faithful to the Lord. Instead of sending an occasional “Have a great day” message, why not add a spiritual note? Such as, “Jesus is the only way to heaven; are you following Him?” Or, “We miss you at church, as does God. Please come back soon!” Or, “I can’t make it without Jesus! He can make a difference in your life, too!”
Far too many people leave this world unprepared to meet God. Although we cannot force anyone to obey the gospel or return to their first love, a short note of spiritual encouragement may just make a difference.
Don’t wait! Send a spiritual note, message or card today. It might just inspire someone to
make a decision for God and Christ.
Be a Light for Christ in 2025!
