While many Americans use the day to kick off summer with outdoor cookouts and relaxation, memorial Day clearly has a more solemn purpose.
It was intended for us to take time to remember those that gave their lives to preserve and protect our country. It reminds us that freedom is not free; it cost the blood and lives of millions of men and women. That being the case, it is only right that we take time to honor those who have fallen.
While we enjoy physical well-being and freedom because of the sacrifices of others, our spiritual well-being and freedom are far more important. One may be physically free, but spiritually sick and enslaved. Praise God for the One who willingly suffered and died so that we might be spiritually free. His name was Jesus Christ, and we memorialize Him every first day of the week when we partake of the Lord’s Supper.
When we put our faith in Jesus and obey His plan of salvation, He grants us peace, hope, joy, goodness, mercy, grace and eternal life in heaven.
While physical freedom is important, nothing compares with freedom from the consequences of sin. Jesus said, “...if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).
May we never forget the price that Jesus paid for our freedom!
Be a light for Christ in 2025!
